The Blood Bank of Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute & Research Centre is a NABH accredited service with the motto of “Safety at all cost”. The Blood bank has, therefore, invested heavily on haemovigilance and quality of its products. Every unit of whole blood is converted into various blood components by automated component extractor to economize on usage and return back the maximum benefit to the community.
The blood is tested at two levels including “Nucleic Acid Testing (NAT)” to preclude almost completely any chance of Transfusion Transmissible disease. To ensure safety further, all units meant for use in susceptible group are irradiated & leucodepleted.
The transfusion service also lays great emphasis on donor care and strictly follows donor selection to ensure quality of blood collected. Each donor unit is further tested for blood grouping, antibody screening & Rh Kell antigen phenotyping on automated platform to ensure utmost safety. Issue of blood is carried out after patient’s blood grouping, cross matching, antibody screening (3 cell panels) & Rh Kell antigen phenotyping on an automated platform to improve precision and accuracy.
The Blood Bank provides an excellent facility for harvesting of Peripheral Blood Stem Cells (PBSC) and their Cryopreservation, Granulocytes collection and Therapeutic Plasma Exchange (TPE) on automated cell separator/Apheresis system. The Blood Bank also provides facility for Titration of Anti A/B antibodies (IgM & IgG), DAT / DCT & IAT / ICT by column agglutination technology (CAT).
We do all of this with the slogan of “Service with Smile” in a pleasant ambience through extremely well trained and courteous staff.
