GI Onco-surgery & Liver Transplant
Gastro-intestinal Oncosurgery is a subspecialty, which deals with the management of cancer of esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, rectum, anal canal, gall bladder & biliary tract, pancreas and liver.
RGCI & RC is the first institute in India in which specialized gastrointestinal surgeon with special interest in GI cancers are involved in the management of these cancers. Other than GI surgeon, medical oncologist, radiation oncologist, intervention radiologist, gastroenterologist, hepatologist, nuclear medicine expert, GI pathologist and stoma therapist forms the multi -disciplinary team involved in the management of GI cancer. GI tumor board meets on every Saturday to discuss the cases, so as to offer best as well as evidence based treatment to the patient.
On every Saturday 12.00-3.00PM, there is a Liver clinic for the patients of liver tumors such as hepatocellular carcinoma, metastatic tumors, intrahepatic cholangiocarcinomas and neuroendocrine tumors. Our department is the first center in India to have facility of ICG test - a quantitative liver function test, which helps in selecting patients of liver tumors for surgery. We also have the facility for radiofrequency ablation, intra-operative ultrasound, TACE (Trans arterial chemoembolization), portal vein embolization, intra-operative cholangiogram and SBRT for liver tumors.
We are the first center in the country to have Belmont Hyperthermia pump for HIPEC (Hyperthermic intra-peritoneal chemotherapy). We have been successfully doing cytoreductive surgery & HIPEC for colorectal cancer with peritoneal carcinomatosis.
We have a one year fellowship program in GI Oncosurgery since 2012. This fellowship is recognized by IMA, Medical Specialities.

Dr Shivendra Singh
GI Oncosurgery unit is headed by Dr Shivendra Singh. He is Graduate and Post Graduate from K G Medical College Lucknow. He completed his M.Ch. (Gastrointestinal Surgery) from GB Pant Hospital &Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi. After completing his MCh, he worked as an Assistant Professor in GI Surgery at GB Pant Hospital, New Delhi. Later, he joined Institute of Liver & Biliary Sciences, NewDelhi in 2007 and was working as an Associate Professor in HPB Surgery & Liver transplantation before moving to RGCI in 2011. He was involved in setting up & starting successful Liver Transplant program at ILBS.
He has many International publications in indexed journals. He was awarded French Government scholarship for training in Advanced laparoscopic GI Surgery at Montsouris Institute, University of Paris. He did his liver transplant fellowship from world renowned Queen Mary Hospital, University of Hong Kong. He has special interest in management of liver & pancreatic tumors, radical surgery for gall bladder cancer, laparoscopic surgery for GI malignancies and liver transplantation
Dr Nikhil Gupta
Graduate from Maulana Azad Medical College, MS from LHMC andMCh(GI Surgery) from GB Pant Hospital, Delhi in 2011. He was working as Assistant Professor in GI Surgery at GB Pant Hospital, prior to joining RGCI in Jan 2013.
