The Department of Microbiology provides diagnostic services to the hospital regarding bacteriology, virology, parasitology, immunology and serology. The department provides accurate results on clinical material within the shortest possible time. With the round the clock laboratory services, and with the use of state-of-the-art equipment the department carries out full range of high quality microbiology services, from routine cultures to molecular diagnostic testing.

The department of Microbiology seems to be dealing with small organisms but works at macro-level. It has the latest and standardized equipments including BacT-ALERT-3D, rapid Blood culture system (BD & Biomeriux) and VITEK-2 compact for automatic identification and sensitivity of bacteria .and fungus etc. The department is equipped with GeneXpert (Cepheid system) for TB , COVID and identifying resistance up to genetic level . The laboratory facilities include state of the art biofire filmarray machine which identifies the most common viral, bacterial, and yeast pathogens along with their resistance pattern within one hour.

To operate these sophisticated gadgets the laboratory has a team of efficient, motivated, knowledgeable and qualified doctor and technical staff who are constantly involved in producing world class results and upholding quality assurance.

The department also looks after the hospital epidemiology and infection prevention programme. cancer patients are frequently immune-suppressed and at risk for a wide range of opportunistic and healthcare-associated infections. A good infection prevention program is extremely important to reduce risk of infection. The department focuses on infection prevention measures specific to patients, healthcare personnel, and visitors in our cancer center.

Basic measures such as hand hygiene, transmission-based precautions, environmental hygiene, aseptic technique, HAI “bundles,” and antimicrobial stewardship are essential components of our infection prevention program.
