Field of infectious diseases has a very vast and important role in functioning of the hospitals. It is a subspecialty of internal medicine and an Infectious Diseases (ID) specialist undergoes a dedicated training for the same for 2-3 years after his/her post-graduation (MD) in internal medicine.
As RGCI&RC is a dedicated cancer centre, patients are immunocompromised and prone to many infections. Role of an infectious disease specialist becomes all the more important in RGCIRC. He/she not only helps in treating these patients with infections but also helps them in preventing such infections.
