It involves use of high dose of radiation, by inserting radioactive source in or around the tumor. Generally, it is used for the treatment of Cancers of the Oral Cavity, Breast, Lung, Prostate and Soft Tissue Sarcomas, skin. The Brachytherapy unit has a multichannel Microselectron HDR with remote after loading system, a dedicated machine with applicators capable of treating tumours at all the above mentioned sites. The new applicators are MRI friendly, so that Image Based Brachytherapy may also be done at indicated sites.
