Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre (RGCI&RC) is a wholly owned project of Indraprastha Cancer Society & Research Centre. Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute & Research Centre is an exclusive cancer care provider for diagnosis and treatment of all types of cancers, available under one roof. The state-of-the-art diagnostic equipments and highly qualified and experienced faculty are hallmark of the organization comparable to the best in the world.
The Institute started functioning on 1st July 1996 when a soft opening was done by Hon’ble Smt. Sonia Gandhi. However, it was formally inaugurated by the then President of India, Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma, in the presence of Smt. Sonia Gandhi and other dignitaries on 20th August 1996.
Initiated as a 152 bedded hospital, it has been growing steadily and has never looked back. Presently, it is a 302 bedded hospital, with state-of-the-art facility for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer and is recognized as one of the premium Institutes, not only in Northern India, but also in the entire country. Since its inception, the Institute has proved its capability as a Centre of Excellence and has so far registered more than two lacs patients, coming from India & abroad.
The philosophy of RGCIRC is to constantly strive towards excellence in onco-care, through combination of latest technology, competent personnel and humane touch. This is reflected by the addition of Bone Marrow Transplant unit, IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy Technique), IGRT (Image Guided Radiation Therapy) and Da Vinci Robotic system.
In cancer diagnosis, the Institute has installed a 40 sliced advance PET-CT in the year 2007, which is working at its full capacity now. PET-MRI Fusion Technology has been introduced. MRI guided biopsy is being done routinely at RGCIRC. RGCIRC is the first and only oncology centre to have PET-MRI Fusion & MRI guided biopsy, C02 Laser for treatment of Oral Cancer, Dialysis Unit, Dental Department and EBUS facilities have been provided for better patient care. Rapid Arc, SBRT and Respiratory Gatting Techniques have been introduced in the Dept. of Radiation Oncology.
