Cancer is the leading cause of death around the world. Incidence of cancer patients are increasing every year partly due to better diagnostic technology. However, due to advancement of cancer therapy, overall life expectancy of cancer patients has also increased. Some of such cancer patient may need ICU care due to complications associated cancer therapy, post operative care, infection or any other issues not related to cancer. Recent studies showed that prognosis of critically ill oncological patients is not worse than other critically ill non oncological patients. It should be noteworthy that medical issues of such sick cancer patients are somewhat unique. So, Intensivist , experienced and trained in onco critical care should take care of these patients.
