Dr. Shubham Jain from RGCIRC noted that appendix cancer was previously classified with intestinal cancers, leading to frequent misdiagnoses. Since August marks Appendix Cancer Awareness Month, Dr Jain highlighted the need for increased awareness and early detection of this disease to improve survival rates. He noted that appendiceal cancer, which has only recently been recognized as a distinct entity, was previously classified alongside cancers of the small and large intestines. Due to its rarity, it is often mistakenly diagnosed as acute appendicitis in many cases.
