In this article, Dr. Ullas Batra, Co-Director, Medical Oncology & Chief of Thoracic Medical Oncology at RGCIRC, shared his views and warned of the perils of tobacco intake to mark the World No Tobacco Day, observed on 31st May every year. He emphasised on the theme for World No Tobacco Day 2025, “Unmasking the Appeal: Exposing Industry Tactics on Tobacco and Nicotine Products,” and highlighted the deceptive marketing strategies used by the tobacco industry to attract young people and encourage early initiation into nicotine use. He said, ‘This is especially relevant today, as we witness a rise in the use of vaping products among adolescents, often under the impression that they are a safer alternative to traditional tobacco and are frequently marketed as ‘cool’ or ‘trendy’.’
