Dr Pankaj Goyal,Senior Consultant and Unit Head, Medical Oncology warns that the increasing tendency of people to self-diagnose symptoms through internet searches and rely on over-the-counter painkillers is contributing to delays in cancer detection. He explains that temporary relief from pain medication often creates a false sense of reassurance, causing patients to ignore persistent or unexplained symptoms instead of seeking timely medical evaluation. Dr Goyal stresses that early diagnosis plays a critical role in improving treatment outcomes, and that proper clinical examination, diagnostic tests, and specialist consultation are essential, rather than depending on online information or self-medication.
