Dr. Vandana Jain, Senior Consultant and Head of Department of Gynaecologic Oncology at RGCIRC, addresses the common and dangerous tendency among women to dismiss excessive menstrual bleeding as normal or merely a consequence of stress and age. She clarifies that bleeding is considered “too heavy” when it requires changing sanitary pads every 1–2 hours, involves passing large blood clots, lasts more than 7 days, or causes fatigue and dizziness. Dr. Jain warns that while heavy bleeding can stem from benign issues like hormonal imbalances, PCOS, thyroid disorders, obesity, and uterine fibroids, it demands urgent clinical evaluation to rule out or address serious underlying medical conditions before it severely impacts a patient’s health and quality of life.
