Doctors at Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre (RGCIRC) in Rohini achieved a milestone by performing India’s first telesurgery using the indigenous surgical robot, Mantra. Led by surgeon Dr. SK Rawal, the team conducted a complex procedure to remove urinary bladder cancer remotely from Gurgaon, 40km away. Fiber-optic technology enabled precise control over robotic instruments, demonstrating the potential to revolutionize healthcare access in smaller cities and remote areas. This breakthrough underscores RGCIRC’s commitment to advancing medical technology and extending expert surgical care across geographic barriers.
