India has made significant strides in medical treatment, particularly in robotic surgery using the SSI Mantra 3 technology. This advancement allows surgeries to be conducted remotely via robots, overcoming geographical barriers. Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre (RGCIRC) has embraced this technology, enhanced accessibility and reduced surgery costs. Tele-surgery, evolving rapidly in countries like China and India, utilizes fibre optic networks to enable operations from any location to another, regardless of distance. This innovation supports operations even in remote areas like South India or Kashmir. The technology’s affordability and lower operational costs make it feasible for smaller hospitals, to benefit from reduced maintenance expenses and operational simplicity.
