Infection control is an essential component of any health care delivery. Infection control measures can be as simple as hand washing and as sophisticated as high-level disinfection of surgical instruments. Implementing these measures can prevent transmission of disease in health care settings and the community.
What do we do to Prevent Infections?
- Isolation of high risk patients.( separate isolation ward for even Carbapenem resistant patients).
- Investigating an outbreak.
- Regulating antimicrobial use.
- Monitoring and surveillance.
- Developing an Antibiogram.
- Control of infection.
- Numerous education materials have been developed to teach infection control measures to health care personnel and the public to prevent the spread of infections.
- Poster competitions to raise awareness amongst staff.
- Live skits with emphasis on hand hygiene for patient and for staff.
- Poetries or songs for the staff to learn some techniques
- Screen savers and reminders in different areas of the hospital.
- Educating staff, patients and their attendants with the help of power points and videos.
- Organize Patient Safety Awareness Week or fortnight, conferences and workshops.
Hand Hygiene
Hand hygiene is of major importance for preventing the spread of infections. Hand hygiene includes washing with soap and water or using alcohol hand sanitizer before and after patient contacts.We organize Hand Hygiene awareness weeks or days for staff, patients and caregivers.
‘Be a Good Visitor’
For keeping your loved ones safe from Infections, please follow simple rules
- Sanitize hands( before and after visiting the patient) with soap and/ hand sanitizer which are kept in each patient”s rooms to avoid bringing in and carrying out germs.
- Stay home if you are sick. Try not to visit the patient.
- Check first before you bring food or flowers. NO OUTSIDE FOOD/ FLOWERS ALLOWED.
- If the person you are visiting is on “Isolation Precautions,” talk to the nurse before entering the room to find out what steps you will have to take, such as wearing a mask or other protective clothing.
- If you are visiting multiple patients, sanitize your hands before and after seeing each patient.
- Follow bio-medical waste management rules.
