Radiation Oncology Treatment

Radiation Oncology refers to the treatment of cancer patients using radiation, which could be X-rays or Gamma rays or electrons. Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute & Research Centre with its tradition of quality and excellence offers comprehensive and modern radiotherapy services it the patients.

Radiation Oncology Department at RGCI&RC is equipped with Linear Accelerators, Simulators, High Dose Rate Remote after loading Brachytherapy system, Dedicated Treatment Planning Computers and Mould Room to fabricate lead shields and templates in house. The department has been intricately networked to CT scan and MRI with DICOM image transfer capability that makes it one of the best Radiation Oncology Hospital in India.

Simulator

Simulator is a specialized X-Ray fluoroscopy unit, having the same parameters as those of the therapy unit without its treatment capabilities. It sets the teletherapy fields to the location of the tumor. The patient may need to spend from 15 minutes to 45 minutes under this unit for treatment positioning, localization and verification of computer planned portals. A change of planning through the course of treatment may again be done after a few days of radiation for selected cases using this equipment.

The Radiation Oncology Department is equipped with five LINACs including a Rapid Arc, and a True Beam, with facilities of Photon Beam, Electron Beam, 3D-CRT, IMRT and IGRT, VMAT and Stereotactic Radiotherapy and Radiosurgery along with latest brachytherapy Technologies.
